Thirsk Hall has been the Bell’s family home for 300 years.

The Hall itself is a grade II* listed three-storey town house built in 1723 and extended in 1770 by York architect John Carr. The house is currently the home of Daisy & Bill and their three young boys.

The house is unique in its setting - to the east of the house it sits in the town of Thirsk and out the west door (to the rear) there are 20 acres of gardens, walled paddocks and a parkland - you wouldn’t believe it was there.

We opened the Sculpture Garden in 2021 and we are delighted to share our secret garden with the community and wider public.

To find out more about our history we recommend this fascinating blog.

We are keen on being green

At Thirsk Hall we are dedicated to reducing our carbon footprint and looking after this fantastic green space for future generations.

We have started the long process of restoring the Kitchen Garden to its former glory, this is a huge project and we hope to be able to open the Kitchen Garden up as an extension to the Sculpture Garden in 2024.

In 2021, we became vegetable sufficient and are delighted to be part of a programme which sees that all our excess produce is donated to the local food bank; and cut flowers to the local care homes. And if that’s not enough; any leftovers from the garden & kitchen go to our three hungry pigs - nothing is wasted! Guests staying in the South Wing Flat are also encouraged to use herbs and vegetables from the garden if they choose to cook at home.

We would be hugely appreciated that visitors remove any rubbish they might have and dispose of it properly. Please help us in our mission to protect the environment.
